Vol. 471 No. 7

Written Answers. - Road Classification.

Pádraic McCormack

Ceist:

216 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Environment the plans, if any, he has to grant national primary route status to the proposed bypass road west of Galway city, to serve from the city to Ballinahown and Rossaveal as an extension of the N6 on the east side of the city; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21829/96]

There are no current proposals before my Department for reclassification of the route in question. A lengthy and comprehensive review of the national road system was brought to a conclusion in July 1994 with the making of the Roads Act, 1993 (Declaration of National Roads) Order, 1994. I do not propose to make any major changes in the national road network in the near future. Traffic patterns will, however, continue to be monitored in order to identify any long-term changes which might have implications for the classified system.
