Vol. 471 No. 7

Written Answers. - Housing Applications.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

223 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment the steps, if any, he intends to take to make it mandatory for local authorities, as Exchequer-funded agents of housing provision, to issue written acknowledgements of applications received in respect of housing; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21929/96]

I consider that written applications to local authorities in relation to housing should receive a written acknowledgement. While it is a matter for local authorities, in their efforts to improve the quality of service to the public, to ensure that correspondence to them is dealt with properly and in a helpful way, the matter will continue to be addressed in the ongoing contacts with local authorities on the issue of quality of services generally.
