Vol. 471 No. 7

Supplementary Estimates, 1996. - Sexual Offences (Jurisdiction) Bill, 1995: Report and Final Stages.

Since there are no amendments we move to Fifth Stage.

Question proposed: "That the Bill do now pass".

The Order of Business today is confusing because it appeared that this Bill would be taken at 9 p.m. Those Deputies who were interested in it may have thought that if they came here at 9 p.m. that would be time enough. I have looked again at the Order of Business for today and it is not clear that this Bill follows the Milk (Regulation of Supply) (Amendment) Bill, 1996. The report of the independent inquiry into the Department of Justice is listed next after the milk Bill. I say this in order to give those who may be interested an opportunity to come in and say what they want to say.

There is a Private Members' Bill which has been accepted by us.

Will the mover of the Bill not get an opportunity to say something on it.

He is not here.

I find it hard to blame him for not being here because of the rather confusing way in which the business is set out. If one reads the programme as distributed this morning, and as read out in the House by the Taoiseach, one would think this Bill was to be taken at 9 p.m. tonight.

I am here.

I have done my best, Sir. There is a limit to what even I can do.

Acting Chairman

We appreciate the interest in the matter. There is a certain active voice in the Chamber.

Notice taken that 20 Members were not present; House counted and 20 Members being present,

Question put and agreed to.
