Written Answers. - Swimming Pool Provision.
I would refer the Deputy to my reply of 14 November 1996 to a number of parliamentary questions on the 50-metre swimming pool in which I outlined the current position on this project.
The Deputy will be aware that in 1992 my Department received proposals for the provision of a 50-metre swimming pool from a number of development consortia on the basis of a design, construction, financing and management package. The outcome of this process was that virtually all of the funding required to build and operate the complex would have to be provided by the Exchequer.
The provision of a 50-metre swimming pool and the funding options, including the question of private funding, is also being considered by the Sport Strategy Group.
