Vol. 471 No. 7

Written Answers. - Violence Report.

Liam Fitzgerald

Ceist:

300 Mr. L. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Justice, in relation to the report entitled Violence at Landsdowne Road, Ireland v England, 15 February 1995, the conditions of appointment of the ex-Chief Justice, Mr. Finlay, in relation to his investigation into and reporting on this matter, specifically in terms of remuneration; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [21867/96]

There were no formal conditions of appointment relating to the work which I requested Mr. Justice Finlay to undertake arising from the violence at Lansdowne Road. Mr. Justice Finlay kindly undertook and completed that work with no question of remuneration. I might mention that I subsequently hosted a dinner for Mr. Justice Finlay to express gratitude for the valuable work which he had performed and on that occasion presented him with a gift of some books as a token of the State's appreciation.
