Written Answers. - Prisoner Categories.
There are no special categories of prisoners in our prison system. There are, of course, varying levels of security of accommodation throughout the prison system, ranging from high security accommodation at Portlaoise Prison to open centres such as Shelton Abbey.
Prisoners are accommodated, initially, in the committal prison appropriate to the court from where they are committed. They may then be transferred for operational reasons.
