The students summer jobs scheme provides income support for the less well-off third level students who have been debarred from qualifying for unemployment assistance during the summer months by virtue of the provisions of section 126 of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1995.
In 1995, 771 students worked under the scheme in County Kerry and on the basis of the latest information available to my Department, 914 students worked under the current year's scheme.
