Vol. 471 No. 7

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

345 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the total payments made to civil servants in his Department in respect of overtime in 1995; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21944/96]

In 1995, £15,778 was paid to civil servants in my Department in respect of overtime. This represented just over half of one per cent of the Department's total salaries, wages and allowances costs in 1995 and was met from the administrative budget.

Ceist:

346 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the total cost of non-civil or public service staff attached to his office in 1995; the anticipated costs in 1996; and if he will give the comparative figures for each of the years 1987 and 1988. [20009/96]

The salary and other pay-related costs of non-Civil Service staff attached to my Department totalled £227,686 in 1995. For 1996, these costs are expected to be £282,804, including £19,583 to two technical evaluators, 75 per cent of which is recoupable from the EU under the Tourism Operational Programme, 1994-99.

As costs such as telephones, office maintenance expenses, office machinery, furniture and so on are charged against broad organisational headings as part of the Department's adiministrative budget rather than against individual staff members, it is not possible to extract accurate figures for other incidental expenses associated with the staff referred to by the Deputy.

My Department was established in 1993 and therefore comparable information for earlier years is not available.
