Ceist:

376 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the total payments made to civil servants in his Department in respect of overtime in 1995; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21944/96]

The total cost of overtime and extra attendance for my Department in 1995 was just over £6 million.

Overtime occurred mainly in meat plants working additional hours outside the normal working day and due to the necessity to have supervision of these operations. There were also additional costs of administrative staff working in local offices due to the significant additional work arising in various aid schemes consequential on the implementation of the Single Market and CAP reform.

Ceist:

377 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the total cost of non-civil or public service staff attached to his office in 1995; the anticipated costs in 1996; and if he will give the comparative figures for each of the years 1987 and 1988. [20011/96]

The total cost of non-Civil Service or public service personnel attached to my office amounted to £221,079 in 1995. It is anticipated to cost approximately £240,000 in 1996. The approximate comparative cost of such staff in this office in 1987 and 1988 is £65,000 and £81,000 respectively.
