In 1995, the Department of the Marine commenced improvement works costing some £77,000 at Derryinver. The works involved the provision of a slipway, a small berthing wall, additional lighting, parking area and pier kerbing. The works were completed this year. During the course of the works proposals were submitted by local interests to modify the scheme to include a low level landing platform. This proposal was examined by my Department's engineers and would have resulted in a doubling of cost for the overall project. Given the level of funding available and demand for essential works at strategically important fishery harbours, I am not in a position to provide any further funding for additional works at Derryinver at the present time.
