Written Answers. - Civil Servants' Overtime.
Overtime costs in 1995 for civil servants in the Department of Foreign Affairs and the office of the Tánaiste amounted to £220,569.20 and £2,234.00 respectively.
Every effort is made to limit the amount paid in overtime and all overtime payments must be sanctioned in advance by administration division. When it has been proven that overtime is necessary, staff are encouraged, where possible, to opt for leave in lieu of overtime rather than paid overtime.
