Vol. 471 No. 7

Written Answers. - Relations With Cuba.

Peter Barry

Ceist:

107 Mr. Barry asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the proposals, if any, he has to promote better relations between Ireland and Cuba; and if he has considered the possibility of establishing diplomatic relations with that country. [21847/96]

I refer the Deputy to my reply of 18 October 1995 to Question No. 51.

We have no plans at present to establish diplomatic relations with Cuba. The lack of formal diplomatic relations, however, does not inhibit the maintenance and development of friendly relations between our two countries. Cultural and other exchanges continue to take place between our countries and there have been visits by public and parliamentary representatives from each country.
