Ceist:

49 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will give a breakdown by age, sex and marital status of the total number of participants in the back-to-work allowance scheme, the area based enterprise allowance, and the part-time job incentive schemes; the average duration during which participants were involved in such schemes; the number of participants who have gone on to employment and self-employment; and the number who have resumed claiming a social welfare payment. A total of 10,097 of the recipients are single and 4,974 are married, while 8,389 are engaged in self-employment with the remaining 6,682 in employment. Precise information with regard to the age of the recipients is not available but, on the basis of a sample survey, it is estimated that 768 are under 25 years of age, 5,666 between 25 and 34, 5,576 between 35 and 44, 2,712 between 45 and 54 and the remainder, 349, over 55. Since the scheme started in October 1993, 4,151 claims have terminated for a variety of reasons. Of these, it is estimated that 2,324 have returned to the live register.
Part-Time Job Incentive Scheme
There are 548 persons in receipt of a payment under this scheme. The other information requested is not available.
The area allowance — enterprise — scheme and the Jobstart initiative are administered by the Department of Enterprise and Employment.
