Vol. 472 No. 2

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

Dinny McGinley

Ceist:

127 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Education the current position in relation to repairs to national schools on Arranmore Island, County Donegal. [22865/96]

A refurbishment programme for improvement works at Leabgarrow national school was included in my Department's 1996 capital programme. The inclusion of the project in the programme enables the scheme to progress through the various planning stages. The project is currently at architectural planning stage.

Due to the present level of contractual commitments on the primary school capital programme, my Department is not in a position to provide grant assistance towards repairs to the other island school.

Ceist:

128 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Education if she will approve a grant to carry out urgent and necessary repairs to Kilkenny national school, County Donegal. [22866/96]

In May 1996, the management of Kilkenny national school sought grant assistance towards the cost of various improvements to the school. My Department's records indicate that a grant was sanctioned in 1992 for similar works at this school. The situation is now being clarified with technical staff and my Department will contact the school management as soon as this clarification received.
