Vol. 472 No. 6

Written Answers. - Radon Gas Levels.

Seamus Kirk

Ceist:

117 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the problem of high radon gas levels in the Cooley Peninsula, County Louth; the plans, if any, she has to have measurements of radon gas levels taken in the various schools in the area; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [23686/96]

I am aware of the findings of the recently published report of the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland in relation to the national radon survey.

My Department is currently communicating with the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland on the best approach to this matter nationally. I will make a definitive statement when the discussions with the Radiological Protection Institute have been completed.
