Ceist:178 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will award a free telephone rental allowance to a person (details supplied) in County Cork. [23644/96]

The application of the person concerned was refused in October 1996 on the grounds that one of her sons, who is receiving unemployment assistance, was residing with her.
One of the conditions for receipt of this allowance is that the applicant must reside alone or only with certain expected categories of people. Persons who are in receipt of unemployment assistance are not included within these expected categories.
Additional information has been received concerning the circumstances of the person concerned and arrangements have been made for a local officer of the Department to call on her shortly to re-examine her entitlement to this allowance. She will be notified of the outcome as quickly as possible.
