Vol. 472 No. 6

Written Answers. - Hospital Waiting Lists.

Willie Penrose

Ceist:

61 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Health the steps, if any, he will take to ensure that a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath is called for this operation without any further delay in view of the fact that she is an old age pensioner, is in urgent need of a hip replacement operation and is on the waiting list of the Midland Health Board for surgical intervention for a considerable period; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23770/96]

Limerick East): In all cases, appointments for medical treatment are allocated on the basis of medical priority. I am advised that the person concerned has been placed on a waiting list, but that the hospital is not in a position at this time to give an exact date of admission. However, the urgency of her case is acknowledged. If the person concerned feels that her condition has deteriorated since she was last reviewed or warrants more urgent attention then she should contact her general practitioner who would be in the best position to take up the matter with the consultant concerned.
