Vol. 473 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Hugh Byrne

Ceist:

200 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the absolute necessity for a sewerage scheme for Rosslare Harbour/Kilrane in view of the fact that it is a major port of entry for 1.5 million tourists each year; when such a scheme will be put in place; the area such a proposal, if any, covers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24565/96]

At my request a revised preliminary report was recently submitted to my Department for the Rosslare Harbour drainage scheme — incorporating the Kilrane area. I have met with a number of residents of the Kilrane area with a view to determining whether the original Rosslare Harbour scheme could be expanded to include them. The Deputy will be aware of my personal interest in this proposal.

Seán Power

Ceist:

202 Mr. Power asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the difficulties being experienced by the Kilcullen residents due to the lack of a proper sewerage scheme; and if so, when the scheme will proceed. [24633/96]

Site investigations have been undertaken and finalised contract documents for the Kilcullen sewerage scheme are awaited in my Department. The European Commission have approved the planning costs of the scheme for Cohesion funding as part of the River Liffey Catchment Plan.
