215 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Education the reason works have not commenced on the necessary repairs, an extension and the provision of a lift for disabled students at the CBS secondary school, Youghal, County Cork, agreed in conjunction and co-operation with Colaiste Eoin vocational school; when such works will be carried out; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Reports concerning the condition of the existing building at Christian Brothers secondary school, Youghal are currently being examined by my Department's technical staff. A response will be conveyed to the school authorities when this examination has been completed. My Department have agreed in principle to the provision of an extension at the school and a schedule of accommodation has been agreed with the school authorities. However, it is not possible to initiate the architectural planning of the proposed extension until the school confirms acceptance of the cost limits set by the Department. The installation of a lift for the physically handicapped students attending the school in question will be planned in the context of the proposed building project. It is not possible at this stage, to indicate when construction will commence on this project.
216 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Education if she will provide funding to Louisburgh national school, County Mayo, for the provision of an outdoor shelter in view of the fact that such a shelter is required due to the time of arrival of the children prior to the opening of the school; and if she will have urgent investigations made into the matter. The primary building section of my Department has no record of the receipt of an application from Louisburgh national school, County Mayo for grant-aid towards the provision of an outdoor shelter. In any event, the Department does not provide grant-aid towards the provision of outside shelters.
