Vol. 473 No. 1

Written Answers. - Use of DDT.

John Ellis

Ceist:

300 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if his attention has been drawn to the use of DDT by Coillte to control banded pine weevil in the north west; and if so, if his Department will monitor this use of DDT. [24491/96]

The presence of small banded pine weevil, Pissodes castaneus, was first recorded in this country in Sligo and Donegal in September of this year. No pesticide products are being used to control this pest at present.

Plant protection products containing the active substance DDT have been prohibited from being placed on the market or used since 1985 under the European Communities (Prohibition of Certain Active Substances in Plant Protection Products) Regulations 1981-1990.
