Vol. 473 No. 1

Written Answers. - Home Support Schemes.

Joe Walsh

Ceist:

16 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Health the home support schemes operated by his Department for families with disabilities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22808/96]

Limerick East): Home support services include home helps, home care attendants and personal assistants and are provided both by health boards and voluntary organisations on behalf of the baords. Support is also provided by the provision of respite care either in a residential centre or with a host family. Such services enable many people with disabilities to live in the community with the maximum possible degree of independence. The objective is to provide a flexible service which can meet the varying needs of different individuals with disabilities and their families. The development of these services is a priority element in the development of services generally for people with disabilities and substantial resources have been devoted to them in recent years.
