Vol. 473 No. 1

Written Answers. - Home Births Report.

Máirín Quill

Ceist:

35 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Health if he intends to publish the report on home births compiled in respect of the Eastern Health Board by a person (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24511/96]

Limerick East): This report was conducted under the aegis of the Coombe Women's Hospital and funded by the Department of Health. The study commenced in 1986 and was completed in 1992; it relates to the five year period 1981-85. In view of the period which elapsed I do not plan to publish the report.

The report was, however, made available to the maternity and infant care scheme review group which considered, inter alia, the question of domiciliary births. The Department of Health has considered the review group's recommendations and is at present considering how best to address these in the context of the forthcoming plan for women's health.
