65 Mr. Callely asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the total amount of national lottery moneys received to date by his Department; if he will give details of the allocation of such moneys to projects; if there are any commitments in regard to future disbursement of such funds; and if he will make a statement on the matter. From 1988 to and including 1996, national lottery funding to a total of £2,739,000 has been allocated to my Department for the promotion of Irish cultural activities abroad. Since 1994, this has been supplemented annually by Exchequer funding. Grants under this heading are made by the Minister for Foreign Affairs on the advice of the Cultural Relations Committee.
Detailed information on the grants made from this funding for individual projects, from 1990, is voluminous; I will have it forwarded to the Deputy as soon as possible. Details of 1996 projects will be available in January 1997, and will be made available then.
Commitments of £53,000 for future cultural projects have been made from the total allocation for 1996.
In addition to the above, the Emergency Humanitarian Assistance Fund has received lottery funding on three occasions. In 1988, funding of £800,000 was allocated to the Emergency Humanitarian Assistance Fund for programmes in Sudan, Mozambique, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. In 1991, funding of £690,000 was made available to the Emergency Humanitarian Assistance Fund for relief operations in Ethiopia, South Africa, Sudan, Bangladesh and Cambodia. On 11 December 1996, an allocation of £1 million was approved by the Dáil from the national lottery. A number of grants are being disbursed to support humanitarian activities in Rwanda, Liberia, Iraq, Tajikistan and Bulgaria. A complete list of all these grants allocated from national lottery funding will be published in the 1996 Irish Aid annual report.
