Vol. 473 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Michael McDowell

Ceist:

8 Mr. M. McDowell asked the Minister for Education when the urgently required works on Kilglass National School in County Galway will commence; when the works will be completed; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1761/97]

Michael P. Kitt

Ceist:

53 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Education the reason a school (details supplied) in County Galway has not been advertised for tender and been awarded a contract in spite of the fact that it was included in the 1995 primary schools capital building programme. [1447/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 8 and 53 together.

I included a building project for Kilglass National School in my Department's 1995 primary school capital programme. The inclusion of the project enabled it to proceed through architectural planning to the tender stage. The school was made aware when the project was announced that the timing of the tender process would be decided in the light of financial resources available.
The planning work is now complete and the project is ready to proceed to tender stage. It is one of a number of priority projects I am considering for funding in the 1997 financial allocation in the context of the budget 1997 and I will make a decision in the matter very shortly. I have already stated publicly that I regard Kilglass national school as a priority school.
