Vol. 473 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Michael P. Kitt

Ceist:

38 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Education the reason a school (details supplied) in County Galway has not been advertised for tender and been awarded a contract in spite of the fact that it was included in the 1995 primary schools capital building programme. [1446/97]

I included a building project for the school to which the Deputy refers in my Department's 1995 primary school capital programme. The inclusion of the project enabled it to proceed through architectural planning to the tender stage. The school was made aware when the project was announced that the timing of the tender process would be decided in the light of financial resources available.

The planning work is now complete and the project is ready to proceed to tender stage. It is one of a number of urgent projects I am considering for funding in the 1997 financial allocation. I will take a decision in the matter very shortly and it will be communicated to the school management.
