Vol. 473 No. 5

Written Answers. - Training and Opportunities Scheme.

Liam Fitzgerald

Ceist:

63 Mr. L. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Education if she will immediately initiate a national awareness campaign to promote the vocational training and opportunities scheme in view of the current serious lack of information regarding entitlement to these courses; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [23261/96]

As the vocational and opportunities scheme is delivered through the vocational education committees, the decision on how best to publicise the scheme in each area is left to the individual vocational education committees. In this context it is understood that advertising is carried out through the local media, parish bulletins, display of posters, leafleting of houses, etc.

I am most anxious that this scheme would be well publicised and for this reason my Department recently produced newly designed promotional material. This material, which includes information leaflets and posters, was distributed to the vocational education committees and other interested parties to bring the scheme to the notice of potential participants.
