Vol. 474 No. 6

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Strength.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

277 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Defence the current number of personnel in our Defence Forces; if he will give a breakdown of these figures; the desired total number of personnel; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3475/97]

Details of the number of personnel serving in the Defence Forces on 31 December 1996 are set out as follows. The military authorities have assured me that the strength of the Permanent Defence Force is sufficient to enable the force to carry out all of its allotted tasks.
