Vol. 474 No. 7

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Cecilia Keaveney

Ceist:

102 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Justice the number of rural Garda stations which are currently open in Inishowen, County Donegal; the number who operate under the Green Man system; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3894/97]

The detailed deployment of Garda personnel and resources is a matter for the Garda authorities. They have informed me that there are six Garda stations in Inishowen in the following locations: Muff, Moville, Culdaff, Malin, Carndonagh and Clonmany.

Each of these stations has communications systems linked directly to the district headquarters at Buncrana.

Ceist:

103 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Justice the plans, if any, she has to close a number of Garda stations in Donegal; and if she will make a statement on the Department policy commitment to tackle rural crime. [3895/97]

It is assumed that the Deputy is referring to the rural community policing scheme. In this context, I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 24 for priority answer on Tuesday 28 January 1997.

There are no plans to close Garda stations in County Donegal.
