Vol. 474 No. 8

Written Answers. - Tax Reliefs.

Kathleen Lynch

Ceist:

22 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for Finance the representations, if any, he has received from the Irish charities tax reform group seeking relief on corporate donations between £100 and £10,000 to recognised charities; the proposals, if any, he has to address their concerns; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4011/97]

Noel Treacy

Ceist:

47 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for Finance the action, if any, he has taken in the 1997 budget to take account of the submissions which he received from the Irish charities tax reform group in November 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1970/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 22 and 47 together.

I received a pre-budget submission from the Irish charities tax reform group in November 1996 concerning tax relief for corporate charitable donations. As I stated on 29 January 1997, in my answer to Question No. 62, charities already enjoy significant benefits under the tax code and I have no plans to introduce a general scheme of tax relief on corporate donations at present.
