Vol. 474 No. 8

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Cecilia Keaveney

Ceist:

75 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Health the current position in relation to the sanctioning of the development at Carndonagh Hospital, County Donegal, to include an Alzheimer's unit; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4057/97]

Limerick East): As the Deputy will be aware the development of Carndonagh Hospital, Donegal is a matter for the North-Western Health Board.

I understand that the board has a development control plan for Carndonagh Community Hospital which includes a small extension to provide services for the elderly suffering from Alzheimer's disease in the Inishowen area. However, I would like to point out that my Department has not yet received a formal proposal from the North-Western Health Board on this matter.

Before approval can be given to this proposal, the board must first take account of competing internal projects and the amount of capital funding available to it.

Mary O'Rourke

Ceist:

76 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Health if he will request the relevant health board to review the case of a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath who is 87 years of age; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that it is proposed that this elderly lady be discharged from hospital to live alone; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4111/97]

Limerick East): As the Deputy will be aware, the provision of long-stay care for the elderly in County Westmeath is a matter for the Midland Health Board. I have asked the Midland Health Board to investigate this matter and respond directly to the Deputy with their findings.
