Vol. 474 No. 8

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Joe Walsh

Ceist:

89 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the widespread disquiet in the Clonakilty area of County Cork arising from the decision of her Department to renege on a commitment regarding an extension to the primary school; and if he will have arrangements made to sanction the original plan for this extension. [4098/97]

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 97 of Thursday, 12 December 1996 in which I outlined the reason a revised accommodation brief issued to the board of management of the boys' primary school in Clonakilty. The Deputywill appreciate that, given the limited resources available and the many demands for capital expenditure on school buildings, my Department must guard against the possibility of over provision in any particular case.

The primary building section of my Department has received a response from the board regarding the accommodation brief and arrangements are being made for a meeting to be held shortly to discuss the issue.
