30 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Health when he intends to set up the committee to investigate issues surrounding assisted reproduction; if he will examine the issues surrounding in utero; the persons on the committee; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4325/97]
Limerick East): I believe that it is necessary to have a detailed examination of the complex ethical and legal issues surrounding assisted reproduction, both to inform public debate in this very sensitive area and to enable the Government to decide how the area might best be regulated. Such an examination would need to cover the very wide range of issues that are of concern. I have been giving careful consideration to how this examination might best be carried out, and I hope to bring proposals to Government in the future.
