Vol. 475 No. 2

Adjournment Debate Matters.

An Leas-Cheann Comhairle

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Pat Gallagher (Laoighis-Offaly) — the urgent need to provide a new Garda station for Tullamore, County Offaly in view of the risk to the health and safety of the Garda Síochána and the public arising from the condition of the existing station; (2) Deputy Ring - the need to instruct the Western Health Board to appoint a dentist for the Belmullet area, County Mayo, either in a temporary or permanent capacity, in view of the delays in dental treatment for young people in the area; (3) Deputy Flaherty — the urgent need to resolve the industrial relations problems in the Department of Education in light of the cancellation of the applied leaving certificate assessments which affected 3,000 students; (4) Deputy Shortall — the need to put the home help service on a proper footing to ensure standardisation of service and rates of pay; (5) Deputy Leonard — the disease problem in the poultry industry; (6) Deputy Seamus Brennan — the publication of the consultants' report into the MMDS deflector issue which was received on 18 February 1997; (7) Deputy Ned O'Keeffe — the loss of calf export opportunities due to insufficient shipping being made available which has led to a substantial downturn in the market value of calves; (8) Deputy Raphael Burke — the inability of CIE to maintain the safety and adequacy of rush hour train services between Balbriggan and Dublin arising directly from the inadequacy of the annual subsidy made available by the State; (9) Deputy O'Donnell — the public concern and the risk to public health caused by the continuing strike in the collection of domestic refuse in the South Dublin County Council area; (10) Deputy Ellis — the provision of sewerage schemes for Jamestown, Drumsna, County Leitrim and Roosky, County Roscommon in view of his reply to recent parliamentary questions.

The matters raised by Deputies O'Donnell, Leonard, Seamus Brennan and Raphael Burke have been selected for discussion.
