Vol. 475 No. 2

Written Answers. - Medieval Dublin.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

70 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if he will give details of medieval Dublin; if he will list the known sites of value; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4582/97]

The urban archaeology survey has recorded all known sites within the medieval core of Dublin and defined a zone within which there are substantial archaeological deposits surviving from the establishment of the city. The sites and monuments record includes this zone together with all other known sites in the greater Dublin area. This information can be accessed in the national monuments and historic properties services of my Department or in the local public libraries.

All archaeological sites are considered of equal importance. If the Deputy wishes to specify what specific sites are of interest to him, I will be glad to communicate the information I have to him.
