95 Mr. Cowen asked the Minister for Health if he will confirm media reports that he is seeking a strategic alliance for the VHI; if so, when; the type of partner being sought; if another health insurance company is regarded as the ideal partner; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Limerick East): The issue of a strategic alliance is, in the first instance, a matter for consideration by the VHI board. I have indicated to the board that I am prepared to examine proposals from it in this regard and to consider initiating such enabling steps, including legislation, as may be necessary for an appropriate alliance to be established.
