30 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Justice the response, if any, to the recently published review of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, particularly a finding of elementary mistakes in Garda files to the Director of Public Prosecutions; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The report indicated that the bulk of files received from the Garda Síochána were satisfactory. However, a number of incidences clearly exist where files are either delayed or inaccurate.
Arising from the report referred to by the Deputy, a small working group — including representatives of my Department and the Garda authorities — has been established to review procedures with regard to the preparation of files by members of the Garda Síochána for the Director of Public Prosecutions. The working group had its first meeting earlier this month.
