Vol. 475 No. 8

Written Answers. - School Facilities.

Seamus Brennan

Ceist:

140 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the lack of recreation facilities at a school (details supplied) in Dublin 16 which was built 25 years ago without any provision for recreation other than a concrete playground; her views on a request from the school to assist, on a once-off grant basis, the £7,500 development of a small area of land donated to the school and adjoining the playground in respect of which it is proposed to turn it into a woodland recreation area incorporating a play area, basketball and football practice areas; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6096/97]

My attention has not been drawn to the lack of recreation facilities at the school referred to by the Deputy and my Department has no record of receiving an application for grant assistance for the work in question. If an application is made, it will be considered but I would point out that resources are scarce and my priority remains the provision of essential classroom accommodation.
