150 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Education if multi-stops could be provided in relation to school transport to the second level schools in Tuam, County Galway, for the students to get off as near as possible to the schools in question. [6107/97]
The central set-down point is a feature of the post-primary school transport scheme, and is in operation in several large towns throughout the country, which have more than one post-primary school. Under the arrangement, post-primary pupils are dropped at the central point and make their own way to their appropriate schools.
A central set-down point has been in operation in Tuam in the past. However, I understand that the location of the set-down point has recently been changed. My Department has received correspondence on the matter, suggesting alternative set-down points, and has requested a report on the issue from the local transport liaison officer.
The Deputy will be informed of the outcome as soon as the report comes to hand.
