212 Mr. O'Donoghue asked the Minister for Justice the number of working groups and committees established by her since 1 May 1996; the title and subject matter of each working group and committee; the personnel involved; the resources applied; and the current status of each. [6334/97]

The information sought by the Deputy in relation to working groups and committees established by me since 1 May 1996 is set out in the following tabular statement. In the case of all officials, an indication is given of the Department or office represented.

Advisory Group on criminal law and procedure; established to review the existing criminal law and procedure as they currently operate and to advise on any changes that would enhance the operational efficiency and effectiveness of criminal law and procedure with emphasis on identified or emerging difficulties susceptible to early resolution through the mechanism of periodic Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bills.

National Steering Group on Suicide Awareness; established to liaise with the local Suicide Awareness Groups in the prisons, under the chairmanship of a Senior Prison Governor.

The Group has met on a number of occasions to date and is currently reviewing and overseeing the implementation of the recommendations of the Advisory Group on Prison Deaths published in 1991.

Prison Service Operating Cost Review Group; established to review the operating costs of the Prison Service.

The Group has not yet reported.

Working Group on illegal and Harmful Use of the Internet; established to identify and prioritise the issues arising from such use and to make recommendations for addressing the legal, technical and structural problems involved.

The Group has recently held its inaugural meeting.

Review Committee to examine the Garda Síochána (Compensation) Acts 1941 and 1945; established to review the efficiency and effectiveness of the Garda Síochána Scheme operating under the Garda Síochána (Compensation) Acts, 1941 and 1945, and, in particular, the implications of the Carney judgment (19 April, 1996)
