Vol. 475 No. 8

Written Answers. - Unemployment Levels.

Ned O'Keeffe

Ceist:

216 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of people unemployed in the areas of Mallow, Charleville, Buttevant, Doneraile and Kilavulen in County Cork. [6089/97]

Live register statistics are compiled by reference to the social welfare local offices where the unemployed person is registered, not by area of residence.

Unemployed people resident in the areas of Mallow, Buttevant, Doneraile and Kilavullen register at Mallow local office. On 31 January 1997, there were 1,643 people on the live register at Mallow local office. There are, however, other registrants included in that total who do not reside in the areas specified in the question.

People resident in Charleville register at Kilmallock branch office in County Limerick. On 31 January 1997, there were 1,485 people on the live register at Kilmallock branch office. This total also includes registrants resident in areas other than Charleville.
