Vol. 476 No. 3

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

137 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will review the decision to refuse back payments of child dependant allowance for a foster child to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 10, who was on deserted wife's allowance for one and a half years prior to December 1995, in view of the exceptional circumstances involved where social workers involved in the case advised the person that she had no entitlement at that time. [7100/97]

The Department has reviewed the case of the person concerned and, in the light of the circumstances, it has been decided to backdate payment of the child dependant allowance to the date the child came to reside with the person concerned. The arrears due will issue as soon as possible.
