Vol. 476 No. 3

Written Answers. - Rural Transport Initiatives.

Seamus Brennan

Ceist:

178 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he proposes to honour before the mid-March Belgian meeting the formal commitment to his predecessor to make financial support available for the rural transport initiatives in the south eastern region in view of the fact that the project is about to stop, leading to loss of technology and future projects; and if his attention has been drawn to the urgency and national implications of the situation. [7089/97]

I am not aware of any commitment by my predecessor to make financial support available to the project to which the Deputy refers and there are no funds available to me for such a purpose. I made this clear to the promoters of the project when I met them recently in connection with this and other matters.
