Vol. 476 No. 3

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Chris Flood

Ceist:

85 Mr. Flood asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give special financial support to South Dublin County Council to assist the council in the integration of former Dublin Corporation dwellings with South Dublin County Council housing stock in view of the fact that a range of remedial works require special attention, including timber component replacement in fascias, soffets, braces, doors, screws, windows, decorative finish to external walls and timber components, upgrading of electrical and thermal insulation systems, garden walls, screens and financing; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6947/97]

The council has been advised that I am prepared to consider approval, under section 108 of the Housing Act, 1996, of proposals for the limited use by it of internal capital receipts to meet the cost of necessary once-off works to upgrade the houses and the environment of the transferred estates, and to provide necessary supporting infrastructure. When the council's proposals in this regard are received, they will be dealt with as quickly as possible in my Department.
