Vol. 476 No. 5

Written Answers - Peace and Reconciliation Programme.

Rory O'Hanlon

Ceist:

61 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Finance the projects which have benefited from peace and reconciliation funding in counties Monaghan and Cavan; and the amount of funding provided in each case. [7488/97]

The special support programme for peace and reconciliation in Northern Ireland and the Border counties of Ireland involves delivery of funding for a wide range of actions under measures dealing with employment, social inclusion, urban and rural regeneration, cross-Border co-operation and economic development generally.

Much of the programme is delivered through devolved mechanisms, viz., intermediary funding bodies such as Area Development Management Ltd., Combat Poverty and Co-operation North.

The urban and rural regeneration actions are delivered through county council-led task forces set up in each of the six Border counties. Applications are assessed on the basis of their compliance with the programme's objectives.
Grant allocations, apart perhaps from those delivered by the task forces, are not categorised on a county basis. Many successful applications involve multi-county and cross-Border projects. Details of grant approvals, including particulars of promoters, projects, project locations and amount of grants are published periodically by the agencies concerned.
My Department is at present preparing for a joint meeting of the programme's monitoring committee, which will be held in the Border region in the middle of April next. In the course of that preparation updated and comprehensive listings will be produced and I will arrange to have copies made available to the Deputy and in the Dáil Library when they are available.
