164 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Education whether staff of St. Angela's College, Sligo, who have worked on a temporary-wholetime contract for a period in excess of two years will be given full-time status; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8617/97]
A review group, under the auspices of the Higher Education Authority is, at present, examining the question of teacher supply and demand in the second level sector including teachers of home economics. Pending the outcome of this review it has not been possible to sanction the creation of permanent full-time posts in this case. I must also emphasise that Government policy on the limitation of numbers employed in the public service imposes severe constraints on the creation of new posts.
