Vol. 477 No. 1

Written Answers. - Medical Examinations.

Brendan Kenneally

Ceist:

188 Mr. Kenneally asked the Minister for Social Welfare if recipients of a social welfare payment which requires a medical examination are allowed bring somebody with them when they attend a medical referee; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8568/97]

A person called for medical examination may be accompanied by his-her medical certifier. The medical certifier is notified of the date, time and place of the examination and invited to be persent if he or she so wishes. In addition, other persons may be admitted to the examination at the discretion of the examining medical assessor. Normally, such requests are made in advance of the examination.
