Vol. 477 No. 1

Written Answers. - Animal Feedstuffs.

Seamus Kirk

Ceist:

206 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will introduce regulations banning the transport of pig feed in containers simultaneously used for the transporting of bulk feed for bovine livestock; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8447/97]

The order which I made last October to strengthen the controls on meat and bone meal requires that those who store or transport meat and bone meal or any animal feed containing meat and bone meal must ensure that these products do not contaminate any other products so stored or transported. Any breaches of this order constitute an offence under the Diseases of Animals Act, 1996. At this stage, I do not consider it necessary to introduce any additional legislation in relation to the matter. However, I am keeping the matter under review.
