Vol. 477 No. 1

Written Answers. - Marine Rescue Service.

Tony Killeen

Ceist:

244 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for the Marine whether a fully complaint helicopter has been delivered for use in the Shannon Air Sea Rescue Service; if so, when it comes into use; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8475/97]

As I stated in the House on 13 March 1997 a fully complaint marine emergency helicopter was expected to be in service at Shannon Airport by the middle to end of March 1997.

I can confirm that a fully compliant helicopter, with autohover, was delivered to Shannon Airport on Sunday, 23 March 1997. Crew training and formal certification by the Irish Aviation Authority are due to be completed tomorrow. On this basis I understand that the aircraft will be fully certificated and operational by the end of this month.
