Written Answers. - Seaside Resorts Scheme.
The pilot renewal scheme for traditional seaside resorts commenced on 1 July 1995 for a three year period. This new initiative is a pilot scheme and is thus of an experimental nature. It must, therefore, be applied on a limited basis in order to evaluate its efficacy.
The selection of the 15 resorts was made to give an even spread around the coast of designated resort areas. Until the scheme is firmly established and the experience from the pilot scheme can be assessed, it would be in appropriate to consider including any additional resorts. However, those areas seeking inclusion in the scheme have been noted and will be borne in mind in the context of any further review of the scheme.
