Vol. 477 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hospital Waiting Lists.

Mary O'Rourke

Ceist:

120 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Health if he will request the relevant health board to review the case of a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath on whose behalf an urgent throat operation was requested some time ago; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8619/97]

Limerick East): The provision of medical treatment to eligible persons in County Westmeath is the statutory responsibility of the Midland Health Board in the first instance. I understand that the person in question who is awaiting a tonsillectomy operation attended at the ENT out-patient clinic on 19 April 1996 and was subsequently placed on the in-patient waiting list. The board is unable to say at this time when the person will be called for her operation. However, if the person feels that her case warrants more urgent attention she should contact her general practitioner who is in the best position to highlight the urgency of her case to the consultant concerned.
